How to calculate GPA
GPA is a credit-weighted average of your letter grades on a 4.0 scale. An A is 4.0, a B is 3.0, a C is 2.0, and so on.
Convert each grade
Map every course letter grade to its point value (A = 4.0, B+ = 3.3, etc.).
Get quality points
Multiply each course’s points by its credit hours. Example: A (4.0) × 3 credits = 12 quality points.
Divide for GPA
Add all quality points, then divide by total credits. Turn on Weighted GPA for Honors (+0.5) or AP/IB (+1.0).
Example: an A (4.0) in a 3-credit class and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit class is 24 quality points over 7 credits → 3.43 GPA.

How do I calculate my GPA?
Multiply each course's grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, and so on) by the number of credits for that course to get quality points. Add up all the quality points, then divide by the total number of credits. The result is your GPA. This calculator does all of that automatically as you enter your courses.
What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
An unweighted GPA uses a plain 4.0 scale regardless of course difficulty. A weighted GPA adds bonus points for harder classes — typically +0.5 for Honors and +1.0 for AP or IB — so a weighted GPA can go above 4.0. Toggle 'Weighted GPA' to add a level to each course.
How is cumulative GPA calculated across semesters?
Cumulative GPA combines every course from every semester. It totals the quality points and credits across all semesters, then divides — so courses with more credits have a larger impact than the simple average of your semester GPAs.
What GPA do I need for honors or Dean's List?
It varies by school, but a 3.5+ cumulative GPA is a common threshold for Dean's List, and 3.0 is often the minimum for good academic standing. Check your institution's exact requirements.
