  2. Type each category’s grade % and weight %.
  3. Your overall grade updates live on the right (or below on phones).

Weighted example

Imagine your syllabus splits the class into three categories. So far you have a 95% in Homework (worth 20% of the course), 88% in Quizzes (worth 30%), and 82% on the Midterm (worth 50%).

  • Homework: enter grade 95 and weight 20
  • Quizzes: enter grade 88 and weight 30
  • Midterm: enter grade 82 and weight 50

Expected result: About 86.4% · B (weights already add to 100%)

Total weight: 0%

How to calculate your grade

Most classes use either weighted categories or a points gradebook. Pick the matching tab and enter what you already know — you can what-if future scores without leaving the page.

  1. Choose a mode

Use Weighted when your syllabus lists category percentages. Use Points when everything is scored in a single points pool.

  2. Fill in what you have

Add categories or assignments with grades (and weights or points). Leave blanks for work that hasn’t happened yet.

Frequently asked questions

Tap a question to expand the answer.

How do I calculate my grade with weights?

Switch to the Weighted tab, then enter each category (like homework, quizzes, and exams) with its grade percentage and how much it is worth toward your final grade. The calculator multiplies each grade by its weight and divides by the total weight, so you get an accurate weighted average even if you haven't entered every category yet.

What is a points-based grade calculator?

A points-based (or gradebook) calculator adds up all the points you earned and divides by all the points possible. Use the Points tab and enter points earned and points possible for each assignment to get your overall percentage.

Do my weights have to add up to 100%?

No. If your weights don't total 100%, the calculator normalizes them, which is useful mid-semester when some categories haven't happened yet. Once all categories are entered and weights sum to 100%, the result matches your syllabus exactly.

Is my data private?

Yes. Every calculation runs locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your grades are never sent to a server, stored online, or shared with anyone.

How is the letter grade determined?

The calculator uses a standard US plus/minus scale (A = 93%+, A- = 90%+, B+ = 87%+, and so on). You can see the full mapping in the grade scale table on this page.
